There were a few games made for the Zapper. Most seemed logical, like Duck Hunt, where you shoot at ducks, or Wild Gunman, which is a quick draw game. But of all the Zapper games, this one made little sense, and we like it that way. Take a look to your right. You wouldn't know it, but that guy running around there is a detective on the hunt of his daughter's kidnapper's trail. He walks in a straight line, and has no weapons, and bottles and cars and birds and just about everything has a grudge against him. So where do you come in? You shoot him. That's right. Bust a few caps into him. What will he do? Die? Bleed? No. He'll jump. Jump over obstacles. He can't do it on his own. A bullet helps him in his merry little way. In addition to shooting him repeatedly, you shoot bottles and cars and birds that try to kill him, because although he can be shot repeatedly, if he were to get hit in the head by a bottle, he'd fall to his grave. So shoot away at things that try to kill him and shoot him to make him jump, all the while looking for these things called the Black Panther diamonds, which just sit there in the middle of his path where nobody but the visually-capable can see them.
Ever play Hogan's Alley? There's a shooting range game where you shoot cans to make them bounce into one of those brick things you see to your left. Our favorite detective R.L. Stevenson is like a walking can. Hurry, Stevenson, and beat that can in his own game! But if I know Stevenson, he'll head straight to the right of the screen, because during the whole game of Gumshoe, he jogs facing right, fearlessly running into obstacles. Why does he do it? Because he trusts that you will clear the way for him!
Feel no remorse for shooting him, for he is bullet-proof! This game is addictive despite how pointless the method of controlling him is. It's a Zapper game you'll be proud to own. Ratings| Graphics: 4.0 / 5.0 |

Graphics: They are crisp and clean, but looks too simple to remake. Those red flying balloon things are there as extra ammo. And the sky is a blinding cloudless blue. Sound: The first level's music is great, but after you leave that level, the music begins to get on your nerves. Control: You need to adjust the brightness and contrast of your TV before playing this, because you can miss a bottle heading for your main man and become frustrated. After that, you won't really care about why I rated it a 3.5 out of 5. Fun: As fun as this game is, it become repedative. They could have made the levels more random to enhance replay value. After a while, you realize that the levels have preset enemy attack patterns, and can avoid them after a few dozen games. Despite that, it's a great game, and nothing is more fun than shooting the hero of a game! |
